last day
We got up and packed up all our stuff and got an uber back up to my favorite beach.
Rented an umbrella/beach chair situation and I took a two-hour AMAZING beach nap.
Ate lunch at the most delicious Peruvian restaurant, and headed home. Best. Trip. Ever.
Got dressed for dinner at Old’s Havana in Little Havana. A wonderful cultural experience and my new favorite Cuban restaurant in Miami. The BEST mojitos I’ve ever had with an authentic sugar cane stick for stirring.
I did not end up feeling my best and was having a really hard time keeping food down which was devastating since the food was the most delicious food I’d ever had, but nonetheless I had to call it early and head back to the hotel. I think having just come off an antibiotic, the intense sunshine, limited amount of sleep, and traveling in general created the perfect cocktail to make me need a night off from all the excitement.
K still had a full night but I needed to lay still and sleep.
Around 10:00am we woke up and it was honestly a miracle we didn’t sleep all day long. Had croissants and coffee at Il dante Café and walked up and down Ocean Drive and Collin’s Avenue. We found a drag queen show at a place called the Palace. Ocean drive was so lively for a Sunday. Apparently brunch on South Beach is a big deal, so I suggest making reservations if you want to eat anywhere on Ocean Drive.
Changed our clothes and headed to the beach and took a FAT nap at the room before dinner.
At the airport this morning, K's phone was going off non-stop which was crazy for 4:00 in the morning. One of those calls was a friend who got us in touch with a club promoter who got us on the list for Story. We started the night meeting up with one of my good friends at 1-800-Lucky in Wynwood. While living in Miami this was one of the, if not THE, only places that I would go out at night. I love the night life in Wynnwood, it’s always vibrant, mostly locals, and has so many different styles of bars to choose from. We had such a great time.
Around 11pm we went to Story. I had never been to a club like that before, a proper club. It was incredible and so high energy. I felt so fancy. We got in and met some really amazing and extremely kind guys from New York who let us sit with them at their table. We had top shelf tequila, watched French Montana perform, and got home at 5:30 in the morning shoes in hand and LIVING that we just had such an amazing night. I have never had so much fun in my life.
We slowly made our way to the hotel.
We stayed in the Starlite hotel on Ocean Drive in South Beach. Honestly the perfect hotel for spring breakers or a South Beach summer. It’s a party hostile and definitely not the place to stay if you have kids or you’re planning to get a good night sleep
Hit the beach. LOVELY. I took so many beach naps this trip. After the beach we bought some groceries and explored a little bit before heading back to the room to get ready to go out.
It all started with my friend telling me she wanted to go somewhere in the US for her birthday before moving to Spain. I hadn't had much experience planning girls trips before, so I was really excited for this opportunity to plan this trip for us.
August 14th at 3:00am we got up and made our way to the airport. We were exhausted, but so ready for the best weekend ever. We went straight to the beach once we landed in Miami. Getting out of the car and smelling that sea breeze made me miss living in Miami so much. Everything felt like home. I didn't realize how much I had missed living here.
We had lunch at my favorite (until later) Cuban restaurant Three Palms Cafe and I took K to the country club that A and I worked at when we first got married to tour the course. We took out a golf cart and saw so many iguanas. There's an insane amount of wildlife on the course. Depending on the time of day you go you can see anything from manatees to alligators to cranes to sharks.
