Step 5 : ambience
Happy Hosting Friends!
Background music. Not necessary if you’re having your best friend over who you’ve known forever, but something I do suggest if you’re having someone over who might not be comfortable sitting in the silence. Some games require thinking and silence, so some fun indie or popular music would be good to have on low in the background. Here are two playlists for dinner parties and game nights.
Step 4 : drinks
I suggest having a few cans or bottles of soda, water, or if you’re looking for alcohol check out my cocktail recipe blog post by clicking here for two easy cocktails to have pre-made for your guests. I think for game nights it’s important to have drinks and food available as self-serve so that in the middle of a game you don’t have to get up and move around to help someone find your cups or plates.
Step 3 : food
Unless your plan is to serve dinner first, finger foods/snacks are the best options. See below two of my favorite recipes for game nights.
Step 2 : games
Have options for games to go with whatever the group is feeling
Best games for game night (4+ people):
Pictionary
Step 1 : Inviting People
You want to make sure that your guests are comfortable and that there are enough people to actually participate in the games. I would suggest inviting minimum of 2 people over; either a couple, or two friends who know each other well. You don’t want there to be any awkwardness of someone feeling incompatible with your other guests, so if you are inviting multiple people or couples over who don’t know each other I would suggest making a point to connect each guest on what they have in common with the others. Another great way to go about inviting people who don’t know each other is to offer them to bring a date and/or a friend, so that you don’t end up feeling tossed around the room all night trying to make everyone feel happy and entertained. Game nights are a great laissez-faire situation for networking and connecting friends on common interests.
Games, food, background music or movie so silence isn’t weird, there can be so much to think about when hosting a game night. Well, I’m here to help. I love game nights especially for connecting people. I’m definitely someone who loves for all my friends to be friends with each other, however, if you aren’t similar to me in that you can still host plenty of game nights. Ideally game nights should have between 3-10 people including you as host depending on what your space can handle and what game you choose to play.
